Community Service Programs

Welcome to the Family Resource Centre of West Hants, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing various community service programs to families in need. Our programs include Housing Support Worker, Parenting Journey, Healthy Beginnings, Playgroups, Babylove and Dial A Ride. 

Healthy Beginnings

The Healthy Beginnings Program (HBP) is a free, in-home support program for families with children ages prenatal to three years old. 

 

They can support you with information and help you understand your child's behavior. They can share ideas about playtime with your child, also help you care for yourself as a parent.

The HBP can help find services you need in the community, such as children's programs, parent groups, toy libraries, and much more.

Housing Support Worker

Assists people in need of housing to find housing and people who are housed but experiencing issues. Can help by:

  • Sending referrals to the Housing Locator

  • Scheduling regular check-ins for ongoing support

  • Mediating landlord/tenant issues to foster positive relationships

  • Assisting with forms required for tenancy board, public housing, housing benefits or other funding opportunities

  • Working with a low income advocate at Nova Scotia Power to assist with issues such as outstanding balances or other fees

  • Connecting clients with other community resources and supports

People in need of housing and people who are housed but experiencing issues. Can help youth, adults and seniors.

Dial A Ride

West Hants Dial a Ride is a non profit organization providing safe, reliable and affordable accessible transportation to anyone in the West Hants Regional Municipality, Hantsport and Mount Uniakce.

We offer service for all residents of West Hants Regional Municipality, Hantsport and Mount Uniacke for medical appointments, personal errands, business meetings, and social, recreational and educational opportunities.

Parenting Journey

Parenting can be a challenging journey, but our Parenting Journey program is here to help. We offer parenting classes and support groups to help parents navigate the ups and downs of raising children.

A voluntary, self-referred community based in-home family support program. The home visitor provides support to both parents and children/youth through any number of complex, emotional or familial challenges.

​

Families with children from ages 0-18, including pregnancy.

FRC Playgrops

Our Playgroups provide a safe and supportive environment for families with young children. We offer interactive play time for children, parent/caregiver and child activities.  We have a program calendar with all our activities.

 

The program is offered Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10-11am.

 Babylove

Our  Babylove program provides a safe and supportive environment for parents with babies 0-12 months.

 

Gives new parents an opportunity to meet together and explore the world of a developing baby. A public health nurse is present during the program.

The program is offered every Thursday from 1-2pm.
